Frequently Asked Questions

A plumbing permit is required for installing a backflow preventer on an irrigation system in Portland Oregon.

As per Oregon plumbing codes, the backflow preventer on an irrigation system must be installed 24” below grade, to avoid freeze damage.  Flowcheck LLC follows all required plumbing codes as required.

While the initial installation of an irrigation system may require an investment, the long-term savings can be significant. Reduced water bills, lower maintenance costs, and the avoidance of plant replacement due to improper watering all contribute to the system’s cost-effectiveness over time.

Prices for an irrigation installation vary based on your individual needs and the number of zones required for the size of your yard and the complexity of the installation.  If you know the square footage of your yard, try our free estimate tool to get an idea of the cost.

A new irrigation installation generally takes anywhere from 5-10 days, depending on the number of zones and the complexity of the install.

One of the primary benefits of an irrigation system is its ability to conserve water. Unlike manual watering methods, which can lead to overuse and wastage, irrigation systems are designed to deliver water more efficiently. They provide the right amount of water at the right time, ensuring that plants receive adequate hydration without excess runoff. This precision not only conserves water but also reduces your overall water bill.

At Flowcheck, we use only the latest in water efficient technology including smart controllers, rain sensors and rotary nozzles, which can save an estimated 30% on water vs traditional sprinklers.

Managing an installed irrigation system requires some knowledge and regular attention, but it is certainly manageable for most homeowners.

Our trained installers will show you how to use your system and recommend a service plan to keep your system running great and your landscapes looking beautiful.

Regular maintenance is an important part of any efficient system.

We recommend taking advantage of our seasonal maintenance plans to diagnose or correct common issues that may lower the efficiency of your irrigation system.

Here are the most common issues you may experience with an irrigation system:

  • Leaks
Regularly check for and repair leaks to prevent water wastage.  Monitor your system and water usage or watch for irregular pressures and water pooling.
  • Clogged sprinklers
In order to maintain efficient water distribution it is important that clogged sprinklers be cleaned.  Clogs may be caused by mineral buildup from water or landscape debris.
  • Timer Malfunctions
Timers should be monitored and adjusted as needed and batteries replaced as needed.

If you are in between services you can book a service call with us by phone, email or online request.

Annual maintenance is key to ensuring your irrigation system functions optimally.

There are three seasonal checks that we recommend for your irrigation system:

  •  Spring Start Up Service
A trained technician will inspect your entire system for winter damage as well as clean all system filters and nozzles.
  • Mid Season Check (Summer)
Weather conditions and levels of precipitation vary throughout the season.  A midseason check allows our technician to monitor or adjust water usage and timers, to prevent over-watering.  Mid Season checks give us the opportunity to ensure your system is giving adquate coverage to your  landscaping and is free from leaks or damage.
  • Winterization Service (Fall)
A winterization service is required to drain the pipes of your irrigation system to protect vulnerable parts from winter damage.

Flowcheck offers seasonal maintenance packages for your irrigation system.

System monitoring will soon be available for our annual maintenance plan holders.

Yes! Flowcheck LLC offers a 1 year warranty on all new installations.

Flowcheck is licensed and bonded with the Oregon Landscape Contractors Board.
